Crown Endurance Series-July updates

Crown Endurance Series standings and news – July 2023

Michael Selman (durunruner@yahoo.com)

The weather is not the only thing that is heating up.  We have hit the half way mark in the 2023 Crown Endurance series, and the real race is just starting.  We also have a new revamped Crown Endurance Series App which has been streamlined with a more friendly user interface.  I will review each button so you can familiarize yourself

I need to start this month’s update with a correction and an apology.  In last month’s final tallies, the Super Mom Atlanta races were inadvertently added two times, so everyone was given double points for that race.  The error has been corrected, and the points have been adjusted so the new totals for this month reflect the updates.  Please check the My Events section of the CES app to review the races you have earned stars in, and if you see any discrepancies, please e-mail be directly at durunruner@yahoo.com so I can address any concerns directly with you.  You can find your races if you click your name from the Age Groups section.

As a review, You will need to create a Crown Endurance Series account in order to view the app.  You can do so by going to the following URL and entering a provided pin code.  Upcoming Events (glideapp.io)

Each race distance has a different point value, so if you run a 10K and win your age group, each point is worth 1.25 stars, so if you win your age group in a 10K race, you would receive so your star total would be 31.25 stars and so on down the line.  You can see the value of each race distance here.  Just click on the race distance and see the star value. Distances (glideapp.io).

The toolbar at the bottom of the App can be used to navigate the App and see where you are now and plan where you are going in your “Star search.”  I will go through each icon with an explanation of what each one does.

Crown Endurance navigation toolbar

 HOME

The first icon, Home, allows easy navigation to all the sections I will be explaining in a moment.  Think of it as the launch pad of the app.  From the home page, you can easily navigate to the various sections of the app.

Upcoming Events is where you can plan your future races that are on the series.  The App defaults to a
list view, which gives you an idea of which races are coming up so you can plan your races.

Upcoming Events

If you want to see a map view, just click on the Map icon in the bottom right corner of the page, and the view will change.

The Past Events icon provides a list of all Crown Endurance races that have already taken place, and for which stars have already been assigned.  Star updates should be distributed by Wednesday of the week after the race is completed.

The Distances icon shows what the points potential is for each distance that is on the series.  The points are weighted based on the event and distance.  The longer the distance, the more points can be earned.  For some distances, when you click on them, it displays qualifying races at that distance.

The Age Group icon is where everyone can see their total points for the series, and their standing in their age group.  This is where you can track your progress throughout the year.  You can view a summary, or details by clicking on the expansion arrow for each age group.

The Participants icon provides an alphabetical list of everyone who has earned points in the series.  Note that everyone person on the list also qualifies for a free Thanksgiving race (There are three to choose from), and you also qualify for the Five Star Championship race, which will take place on Sunday, January 7th, 2024.

You can look at the entire list, or you can search by your name.  The icons show both Turkey Trot and Championship race qualifiers.

The Leaderboard icon provides a view of the age group leaders in each age group.  My goal is for the standings to be updated by the Wednesday of the week after the race has been completed.

Remember, as soon as you reach 500 stars, you will receive a coupon code for a Free Five Star race.  We are still working on higher tier awards.  Hopefully, we can announce these awards by the middle of the year.  In the meantime, keep running, and keep reaching for the “stars.”

Current standing are found below and include ALL races in the series through June 24, Made in the USA.  If you find any issues, please reach out to me at durunruner@yahoo.com

A special shoutout to the one and only Norman Wenger, who is the first participant to reach the 500 point plateau.  Congratulations Norman for reaching this milestone less than half way through the year.
